It is aimed at practice, not at a full course, and recent complaints about charges after cancelling mean you should note the trial end date. What is TalkPal?
TalkPal is an AI language-practice app made by TalkPal, Inc., whose terms name Delaware law and a Wilmington address. Its App Store description says it uses GPT-based models. You can practice by typed chat or by voice, and in Call Mode you speak hands-free with an AI tutor called Emma. Other modes include role plays, characters, debates, photo prompts, and word, sentence and dialogue exercises, plus video lessons. It corrects pronunciation and grammar, and Premium adds a daily AI feedback summary and progress stats.
TalkPal says it has more than 10 million users, while its App Store text says five million. It states no level range and instead says difficulty adapts and courses are generated for your level.
Which languages does it teach?
TalkPal says it supports more than 130 languages, and one FAQ page says over 134. That is far more than Praktika (14) or Pingo AI (25 or more). TalkPal does not publish a quality guide for each language, so test your language on the free plan.

The US App Store lists $19.99 for one month, $49.99 for three months and $119.99 for twelve. Some third-party pages cite a $14.99 monthly plan, which we could not confirm. We saw no lifetime plan.
Free trial and refunds
TalkPal’s pricing page shows a 14-day free trial with “no payment today,” and the trial converts to paid unless you cancel. Its terms, updated on September 19, 2026, add:
- You can cancel any time in your account or by email, and you keep access until the term ends. Cancelling alone does not earn a refund.
- Purchases made directly on the web can be refunded in full within 30 days for any reason, once per person, by email.
- App Store and Google Play purchases follow the store’s rules.
- You can pause a plan for one to three months, and customers in the EEA and UK have a 14-day withdrawal right.
Ratings and complaints
The US App Store rating is 4.7 from about 3,600 ratings, Google Play shows 4.6 from about 105,600 reviews, and Trustpilot shows 4.4 from about 2,240 reviews, of which 1,576 are five-star and 184 are one-star. TalkPal’s own site claims a higher figure that we could not reproduce.
Praise centers on chat practice with instant corrections, the variety of modes and less anxiety about speaking. Complaints include charges after cancelling, which appear in many of the recent low-rated Trustpilot reviews, plus bugs such as stuck replies and quiet audio, weak pronunciation correction and features locked behind Premium. Trustpilot reviews are self-selected, so treat them as a signal, not a verdict.
Privacy and limits
TalkPal has no offline mode, is for adults only (18+), and its iOS Guest Mode offers flashcards only. Its privacy policy says voice audio is sent in real time to AI providers it names, including OpenAI, Microsoft, Google, Anthropic and AWS, and is not stored by TalkPal. Transcripts are kept for up to 36 months after your last activity, contractors may read conversations for support and quality checks, and de-identified data may be used to improve its models, with an opt-out.
